Long Beach Medical Center established the Coalition to Prevent Underage Drinking in August 2000 to address underage drinking and other drug use as a public health crisis. In 2013, when it became clear the Medical Center would not re-open, the Coalition became its own not-for-profit, Long Beach AWARE. As of January 2014, we are a State funded Prevention Provider under contract with Nassau County.

Over the years, Long Beach AWARE and its partners have worked collaboratively to decrease substance use in our community.

Our focus is aimed at changing OUR world – Long Beach and its surrounding communities. We use a three-pronged approach: increased enforcement, limiting access and education - all geared towards bringing about lasting change in the community culture around alcohol and other drug use.

The mission of Long Beach AWARE is to help our community become a healthier and safer place for families.
